Event production in Cairns with technicians on site from bump-in to the last cue
Cairns AV Hire provides complete technical event production in Cairns and Far North Queensland: production planning, audio, lighting, vision, staging, power and experienced technicians for corporate launches, awards nights, concerts, council and community events and ceremonies. One quote covers the design, the equipment, the crew and the show.
We are a production company, not a counter: every event is designed, rigged and operated by our own crew. We don't dry hire equipment or send gear without technicians, because the operator is the part that makes the show work.
Technical production, planned around your running order
Every event has a running order, and the production plan is that running order with the technical detail filled in. Which microphone is live for the welcome, which slide is up when the CEO walks on, when the lights change for the awards, how long the band's changeover takes, where the camera is for the reveal, and what happens if the power dips. Mark builds that plan with you, then his crew delivers it cue by cue.
The equipment is chosen for the venue and the audience rather than the other way round: a PA that reaches the back of a ballroom without deafening the front tables, screens sized to the room depth, lighting that flatters the stage and the speakers, staging and drapes that make a hotel function room look like a designed set.
We produce corporate launches, awards nights, gala dinners, concerts and live shows, civic and council events, school and university events, First Nations community events and ceremonies, from a 100-seat room to a festival field. Twenty years of doing this in Far North Queensland means the wet season, the venue with one power point and the generator that trips are all planned for before you think of them.

What is in a Cairns AV Hire production
Production management
A site visit, a technical plan built from your running order, a bump-in and bump-out schedule agreed with the venue, rehearsals, and one production manager on site who is responsible for the show. Mark quotes it, plans it and is usually behind the desk on the day.
Audio
Line array or point-source PA sized to the room, digital consoles at front of house and on monitors, wireless microphones and in-ear systems, stage monitoring, and an audio engineer mixing for the whole event. Delay speakers and fills for long rooms and outdoor sites.
Lighting
Moving heads, LED wash and profile fixtures, uplighting, haze, trussing and ground support, a lighting console and an operator running cues to the programme. Designed for the room and the moment, from clean corporate white to a full concert look.
Vision
LED walls, projection and side screens, comfort monitors, a vision switcher for slides, playback and cameras, and an operator making sure the right thing is on screen at the right second. Cameras and recording where the event needs a record or a stream.
Staging and set
Modular staging and risers, drapes, lecterns, a tidy cable run, and stage layouts that give the band room and the presenters a clear path. Power distribution and generators for sites that need them.
Crew
Front-of-house engineers, monitor engineers, lighting operators, vision operators, camera operators, streaming operators and staging hands who stay for the whole event. Crew size is set in the quote and explained line by line.

Awards nights, gala dinners and product launches
An awards night is a sequence of reveals, and each one needs the lights, the screen, the music and the microphone to hit together. We design the sequence with the organiser, load the winner stings and sponsor loops onto the vision desk, plot the lighting looks, and call the cues live so the MC never has to wait for the technology. The band or playback is mixed so guests can still talk between presentations.
Product launches are built around a single moment: the video wall going from black to the product, the lighting change, the audio hit and the applause. We rehearse that moment until it is boring, which is how it becomes reliable. When the launch needs to reach people outside the room, the same crew runs the live stream from the vision position.
This is the same production approach we bring to conference AV in Cairns, where the evening function follows a day of plenary sessions in the same room.
Concerts, live shows and touring riders
For concerts and live shows the production starts with the rider. We build to local, national and international touring riders: a line array PA with the coverage the venue needs, industry-standard digital consoles at front of house and monitors, professional wireless and in-ear systems, a monitor mix per musician, backline patching, and a lighting plot that respects the artist's design while working in the room we actually have. Send the rider and the stage plot with your enquiry, and Mark will confirm substitutions before anything is quoted.
We also produce live shows for festivals and community events, where the challenge is several acts, fast changeovers and an outdoor site. See our festival and outdoor event production for how that works from Cairns to Cape York.
Civic, council, school and community events
Citizenship ceremonies, ANZAC services, school presentation nights, graduations, NAIDOC events, openings and community forums all get a production plan, the right microphones and PA for the space, and a technician who makes sure the speeches are heard and the anthem plays on cue. We understand protocol, running to time, and the difference between a PA for a speech and a PA for a band.
Ceremonies and life events
Weddings and memorial services get a discreet, clearly heard system, wireless microphones for the celebrant and readers, music playback and a calm technician who runs it quietly. Memorials are often arranged with a day or two of notice; call Mark directly and he will make it work.

Why an operated production rather than equipment on its own
Because events fail in the details, and the details happen live. A PA that is not tuned to the room is loud at the front and muddy at the back. A screen with nobody switching it shows the wrong slide. A stream with nobody watching the encoder drops and stays dropped. A lighting rig that is switched on rather than operated looks the same for the welcome, the awards and the dancing. Putting a technician on every desk is not an extra; it is the service. It is also why we can give a fixed, itemised quote and stand behind it on the day. If you need only the equipment, we are the wrong company, and Mark will tell you so on the phone. For the equipment itself, see the sound, lighting and vision we bring.
Event production questions
What does technical event production actually include?
Everything technical between the idea and the pack-down: a production plan built from your running order, audio, lighting, vision and staging designed for the venue, power distribution, delivery and rigging, rehearsals, technicians operating every desk during the event, and bump-out afterwards. You get one quote, one crew and one production manager who is responsible for the show.
Do you provide technicians for the whole event, or just set up and leave?
The whole event. Our audio engineer, lighting operator and vision operator stay on site from bump-in to bump-out, because the moments that matter happen during the show, not before it. There is no set-up-and-leave option and no self-operated package; the technicians are part of every Cairns AV Hire production.
Can you produce an awards night or gala dinner in Cairns?
Yes. Awards nights and gala dinners are a regular part of our work at Cairns hotels and the Convention Centre: an MC and presenter microphone system, a video wall for sponsor loops and winner reveals, timed lighting cues, walk-up music, a live band or playback mix, and a technician calling the cues so each reveal lands with the lights, the screen and the sound together.
Can you build to a touring artist’s technical rider?
Yes. We regularly build to local, national and international riders: a line array PA sized to the venue, an industry-standard digital console at front of house and on monitors, professional wireless systems, wedges or in-ear monitoring, backline patching and a lighting plot matched to the artist’s design. Send the rider with your enquiry and Mark will confirm any substitutions before quoting.
What do you need from the venue?
Clear access for the truck at bump-in and bump-out, a stable power supply where the rider requires it or a generator we supply, a rigging or ground-support plan for lighting, a covered, weather-protected position for the front-of-house desk, and the venue contact for house systems. We check all of this at the site visit, and for remote sites we bring our own power distribution.
How do you handle bump-in and bump-out timing?
We build a schedule backwards from doors: truck arrival, rigging, PA tuning, lighting focus, soundcheck or rehearsal and a buffer before the first cue. Bump-out is planned the same way so the venue is handed back on time. Mark shares the schedule with the venue and the event organiser so everyone knows when the room is ours and when it is theirs.
Planning an event in Cairns or Far North Queensland?
Send the running order or a rough outline, the venue, the date and expected numbers. Mark will come back with a production plan and an itemised quote, usually within one business day.
