Professional sound, lighting and vision for events in Cairns, set up and operated by our technicians

Cairns AV Hire supplies and operates professional event sound, stage lighting and vision in Cairns and Far North Queensland. That means line array PA systems and delay speakers, digital consoles and wireless microphones, moving-head and LED lighting, large LED screens, projection and vision switching. Every system arrives with the engineer or operator who tunes and runs it.

This is not a list of gear to collect. It is what our technicians bring, rig, tune and operate for your event; we don't dry hire, and there is no self-setup option.

Event sound in Cairns: clarity from the front row to the back fence

Good event audio is not about volume. It is about the person furthest from the stage understanding every word of the keynote and hearing the band the way the band hears itself. That takes a PA sized and shaped to the audience, a console mixed by an engineer for the whole event, microphones chosen for the source, and time and measurement spent tuning the system to the room before anyone arrives.

For conferences that means lectern and lapel microphones, audience question microphones, a clean speech mix and a feed to the stream. For concerts and festivals it means a line array with delay towers, subs, a monitor engineer and in-ear or wedge mixes for the musicians. For ceremonies it means a discreet system that is heard clearly without being seen. The equipment overlaps; the engineering is what changes.

Audio we bring

  • PA systems from compact point-source speakers for a 100-seat room to line arrays with delay speakers for outdoor crowds, all with subwoofers where the programme needs them
  • Digital mixing consoles at front of house and on monitors, with an engineer at each
  • Microphones: lectern, wireless handheld and lapel, headset, instrument and choir microphones, and a spare of everything
  • Stage monitoring with wedges or in-ear systems and a monitor mix per performer
  • Playback and recording: walk-in music, stings, video audio, and a recording of the programme

Stage lighting and event lighting in Cairns, operated to the programme

Lighting does two jobs at an event: it makes the people on stage look good, on the night and on camera, and it changes the room from one moment to the next. A conference needs clean, even key light and a backdrop in the sponsor's colour. A gala dinner needs a warm room wash, table uplighting and a reveal look for the awards. A concert needs movement, colour and haze that make the beams visible. All of that is designed in advance and run live from a lighting console by an operator following the cue list.

Lighting we bring

  • Moving heads, LED wash and profile fixtures for stage, backdrop and effects
  • Key light for presenters and panels, designed to read well on camera and on the stream
  • Uplighting and room wash in brand or theme colours for ballrooms, marquees and venues
  • Haze where the venue allows it, and beam looks for concerts and reveals
  • Trussing, ground support and rigging planned to the venue's points and load limits
  • A lighting console and operator running cues to the running order for the whole event

LED screens, projection and vision for events in Cairns

Vision is where an audience notices problems fastest: a slide that is cropped, a screen too small to read from the back, a video that plays without sound, or a presenter waiting while someone swaps a laptop. We solve those with the right screen for the room and a vision operator who switches every source from a single desk.

Projection suits standard conference rooms with controlled light. LED walls suit bright ballrooms, wide plenaries and outdoor events, and they make sponsor content and video look the way it was designed to. Outdoor LED screens with ground support bring slides, live camera and sponsor loops to festival crowds, sporting events and public ceremonies in daylight.

Vision we bring

  • LED video walls for plenaries, gala dinners, launches and outdoor events, with processors and a vision operator
  • Projectors and screens, front or rear projection, sized to the room depth
  • Comfort monitors and countdown timers so presenters see their notes and their time
  • Vision switching between laptops, playback and cameras, with a presentation laptop at the desk and all slides checked in advance
  • Cameras and image magnification for large rooms, and a feed to the recording or live stream

How this all comes together for a full event is described on the event production page; how it works in a plenary and breakouts is on the conference AV page.

Sound, lighting and vision questions

Can you supply a large LED screen for an outdoor event in Cairns?

Yes. We supply and operate outdoor-rated LED screens with the ground support or truss they need, a processor and a vision operator, for festivals, outdoor cinema nights, sporting events and public ceremonies. Screens are sized to the viewing distance, positioned for sun and sightlines, and fed with slides, sponsor loops or live camera from the vision desk.

What size PA system do we need for our audience?

It depends on the audience size, the shape of the space and what the audience is listening to. A 200-seat conference room needs clear speech, a 1,500-person outdoor festival needs a line array with delay towers, and a ballroom band needs subs and monitors. Tell Mark the venue and numbers and he will size the system rather than sending the biggest thing on the truck.

Is projection or an LED screen better for a conference?

Projection suits standard rooms with controlled light and a screen up to about five metres, and it is the quieter, more economical choice. LED walls suit bright ballrooms, wide plenaries and gala dinners where the screen is part of the set, and they show video and sponsor content with far more punch. We recommend one or the other once we have seen the room and the programme.

Do you provide stage lighting for corporate events, or only concerts?

Both. Corporate lighting is about clean, flattering key light on presenters, a backdrop wash in your brand colour and a look that reads well on camera. Concert lighting is about energy, movement and haze. The same fixtures and operator do both; the design and the cue list change with the event, which is why a lighting operator is included rather than a rig switched on and left.

Do you use delay speakers for a large or long audience?

Yes. When a room or field is deep, a single stage PA either deafens the front rows or fades before the back. Delay speakers part-way down the audience are time-aligned to the main system so speech and music arrive clean and at the same moment everywhere. We tune them with measurement software during setup, which is one of the reasons an engineer is on site.

Is every system operated by a technician?

Yes, always. The engineer who tunes the PA, the lighting operator who runs the cues and the vision operator who switches the screens stay for the whole event. That is the difference between a system that is loud and one that is clear, and it is why we do not offer a self-operated option.

Tell Mark about the room and the audience

Send the venue, the numbers and what the audience is watching and listening to. Mark will size the sound, lighting and vision to the space, include the technicians to run it, and send an itemised quote, usually within one business day.
